Message from the President

From the President:

Welcome to our LA NIGP website. I hope that everyone is having a good year. You will notice some changes to our website as we progress to improve the user-friendliness of the site. If you have any suggestions or questions about the site, please contact me (or any Board member). We will be glad to assist you in any way possible.

As you navigate the website, you’ll notice you are able to register online for upcoming events. You will find the Scholarship Application, which is available for those members, whose agency may not pay for your attendance to conferences, webinars, etc., which I believe are instrumental in maintaining your professionalism in your jobs and careers. Please consider attending all events that are available to members. And, if you aren’t already a member of LANIGP, please join now, and enlist others.

Our new Networking Group, recently named PASS da Time (Purchasing Alliance for Social Sharing), is in the process of planning regular meetings for members to network outside of the work day where you can share new information, get help by asking questions that you may be afraid to ask in a more formal setting. Our next meeting notice will soon be sent to all members. Please attend to see what it’s about.

Congratulations to all members who are certified, and have either their CPPB or CPPO certification, and especially to those who just recently obtained their memberships. I know the hard work that goes into preparation of taking – and passing - the required tests. Your experience and knowledge has brought you to that point. For those of you who have not yet certified, you should try to accomplish this task for your career. Having your certification will speak volumes to others in the governmental procurement world. As the National NIGP website states, “Certification of procurement professionals is a critical tool for agencies all over the country as they watch every dollar and look to maximize value, which well-trained professionals are better equipped to do. Certification can also provide an edge when applying for an open position or looking to be promoted.” The deadline is nearing for the old requirements. New eligibility requirements for obtaining your certification will soon replace the current ones, including a required formal educational degree from an accredited college or university, required training by an instructor-led course, or coursework from an accredited college/university level. You may find the eligibility requirements at the National site: http://www.uppcc.org/certified/2014certeligibility.aspx

Good luck to all who are planning to take the upcoming exams, and know that your Chapter is here to help. Just reach out to someone who is certified, who can possibly help you plan and even study for the exam.

Thank you for allowing me to serve you as the LA NIGP Chapter President for the next 2 years. The Board of Directors and I meet monthly to discuss the state of our chapter and annual Conference. If you have any questions or suggestions, please relay them to the proper chairperson(s) or myself. I look forward to presiding over our Board and Membership. Thank you for all that you do to make our Chapter great.

Sincerely,

Tammy Grant, CPPB
LA NIGP Chapter President
